Erin Blasko, Tribune Staff Writer states:
“Following allegations he inappropriately touched a female student, police and school officials have decided to remove Lt. Chris DeMeyer as resource officer at Penn High School.”
**Note, even though this is the other side of this story, I am in no way siding with either side. I know that WSBT is monitoring all of the comments posted about DeMeyer and removing anything negative in relation to this situation. I personally don’t find that right, but it is their website. They can moderate it how they please, and I am sure for good public relation reasons. If you think something is wrong then speak your peace about how you feel and let the other people decide if you are credible or not – The quoted items have their sources listed so you are welcome to follow up at their locations.**
Penn High School has gone through a few resource officers. Being a graduate of Penn High School in 2005, I’ve heard about many incidents revolving around school officers. I guess it goes to show that students don’t like being treated like criminals. Unfortunate that other student members of society have ruined normal schooling life with violence and misbehavior.
During a group search for a stolen iPod, a 17 year old female student felt she was violated by Lt. Chris DeMeyer during his search. Young teenage girls are sensitive about their bodies and those actions can cause misconceptions. I was reading a forum about DeMeyer where some posters seem to think that DeMeyer would do something along those lines… I don’t personally have any idea about DeMeyer but it appears he doesn’t have some fans here and there…
“Demeyer has a lot of twisted ideas and often speaks crudely in front of women. His past shows he does not care about women and thinks of them as objects. Could he have done this? yes I would believe that, so would alot of others that know him. It takes a lot of guts to stand up for what is right and go against a police officer. Good for the mom for taking a stand and bringing attention to it. Maybe Demeyer will finally get the help he needs.” – Citizen101 from the South Bend Tribune’s Forums
DeMeyer will be replaced by Cpl. Rebecca Childers, a female officer.
Cpl. Rebecca Childers, South Bend — Childers is a member of the St. Joseph County Police Department. She is in charge of the child seat safety program, is a certified child passenger safety technician, and also developed and runs a program to educate teens on the dangers of drunken driving. She also has worked with Drug Abuse Resistance Education to educate students about the effects of drugs and alcohol. She was a former officer at Schmucker Middle School
