Anthony Frick – Accused rapist pleads guilty again (South Bend)

by CpU on Feb.02, 2010, under Article Responses, Michiana, Michiana News

“SOUTH BEND — The trial for a 24-year-old man accused of rape has been canceled after he pleaded guilty Monday for the second time.”

Read Accused rapist pleads guilty for second time on WSBT

By: ALICIA GALLEGOS, Tribune Staff Writer (Source)

Anthony Frick plead guilty of rape which will save time on a trial and our tax money…

“Anthony Frick pleaded guilty this afternoon to rape and two counts of criminal deviate conduct, all A felonies, along with impersonating a police officer, a Class D felony.”

Anthony was accused of these charges after an incident where he was intoxicated. Frick impersonated a police officer to gain entry into an elder ladies home. He then attacked, raped, and threatened this 67-year old women with her life.

“Frick faces 60 to 153 years in prison at sentencing, scheduled for March 9.”

Now I knew Anthony about 6 years ago from Penn High School, along with his brother. I guess I would say I would have never guessed that he would do something like this, but things change in 6 years. Reading Anthony Frick’s Myspace Page it talks about Beer and Girls mostly, with a little mention of his 1-year-old daughter…

    Quoted from Anthony Frick’s Page:

Who I’d like to meet: Girls who can drink alot of beer”

“Im 20 years old I like to drink alot of beer and have a good time. If im not drinking im working”

“shooting pool drinking beer and raising my 1 year old daughter”

“Movies: dont really care i usually dont watch them im doing better things during the movie”

“Books: nope dont read well maybe playboy”

    “Heroes: your mom”

Hardly a model citizen… Reading his profile makes me dislike him even more…

Some people have made some rude comments about his family. They are in no way in any shape or form responsible for his actions. He is an adult, and he made his own decision. I’m sure it is hard enough for them already, and don’t need to be questioned about their own morals.

United Way provides free tax preparation – WSBT (South Bend – Michiana)

by CpU on Feb.01, 2010, under Guest Post, Michiana, Michiana News

Read the Original Post @ WSBT: United Way provides free tax preparation

    By Alyssa Rossomme (arossomme@wsbt.com)

SOUTH BEND — The envelopes from your bank and employer may be starting to pile up at home. It is the time of year people are starting to do their taxes. The United Way is helping local residents keep pennies in their pocket, by offering free tax preparation for those in need.

Trained tax advisers, including some former accountants, will be at many sites throughout South Bend, Elkhart, and Plymouth in the next couple of months. The volunteers will prepare and file taxes for free, for people who need the help most.

Tiffany Reddick is one of the tax assistance volunteers. Last year, she was one of the people who benefited from the free service.

“They were looking to help me get as much money as possible. You know, they weren’t just rushing through everything. They were taking their time, asking me questions, making sure I was getting everything I could get,” Reddick said.

“The benefit we’re looking to help people with is to keep their money in their pocket,” said Dawn Chapla of the United Way of St. Joseph County. “That’s kind of a plain way to say it.”

This year, the United Way ramped up its volunteer income tax assistance program because of a growing need. More than 75 volunteers, like Reddick, will file refunds for up to 2000 families in this area.

“There are a lot of people who don’t have work or whose incomes are diminished for a number of reasons ‒ or are afraid they will be one of those who won’t have incomes they’ve been used to ‒ so saving every penny is important,” said Kay Ball of the United Way of St. Joseph County.

Reddick said she not only saved money on the preparation, she also got a bigger return than she ever had before.

The tax preparers will make sure every person who uses the free service receives the earned income tax credit if they qualify. The government credit gives low-income workers a portion of their paid taxes back. It can give those families a couple extra thousand dollars to help pay their bills.

To benefit from the tax assistance program, call 211 to set up an appointment. There are 9 sites throughout St. Joseph, Marshall, and Elkhart counties. They will let you know what items you need to bring with you.

    men_try_to_rob_girl_riley_high_school_what_an_airgun_looks_like

This Crosman C11 CO2 Airgun .177 BB/Repeater Semi Auto – Pistol looks pretty real doesn’t it?Most air guns do look like real guns, and some men in South Bend thought they’d try and rob some 15-year old girls with some (Not a crosman, that was just an example)… The Air Gun thugs didn’t get very far, because one of the girls snatched back her purse and took off.

They were then surprised to hear the sounds of air guns gunning them down on the spot. No worries though, the injuries were not enough to receive any medical treatment.

No description of the Air Gun Thugs was given in the article, so if you have any information on this event please let the police know!

All I have to say is those 15-year old girls are very brave…

DeMeyer out as resource officer at Penn – WSBT

by CpU on Jan.29, 2010, under Article Responses, Michiana, Michiana News

Read WSBT’s news story about DeMeyer’s departure from Penn High School as their resource officer.

(Image courtesy of Janar Stewart – Tribune)

Erin Blasko, Tribune Staff Writer states:

“Following allegations he inappropriately touched a female student, police and school officials have decided to remove Lt. Chris DeMeyer as resource officer at Penn High School.”

**Note, even though this is the other side of this story, I am in no way siding with either side. I know that WSBT is monitoring all of the comments posted about DeMeyer and removing anything negative in relation to this situation. I personally don’t find that right, but it is their website. They can moderate it how they please, and I am sure for good public relation reasons. If you think something is wrong then speak your peace about how you feel and let the other people decide if you are credible or not – The quoted items have their sources listed so you are welcome to follow up at their locations.**

Penn High School has gone through a few resource officers. Being a graduate of Penn High School in 2005, I’ve heard about many incidents revolving around school officers. I guess it goes to show that students don’t like being treated like criminals. Unfortunate that other student members of society have ruined normal schooling life with violence and misbehavior.

During a group search for a stolen iPod, a 17 year old female student felt she was violated by Lt. Chris DeMeyer during his search. Young teenage girls are sensitive about their bodies and those actions can cause misconceptions. I was reading a forum about DeMeyer where some posters seem to think that DeMeyer would do something along those lines… I don’t personally have any idea about DeMeyer but it appears he doesn’t have some fans here and there…

“Demeyer has a lot of twisted ideas and often speaks crudely in front of women. His past shows he does not care about women and thinks of them as objects. Could he have done this? yes I would believe that, so would alot of others that know him. It takes a lot of guts to stand up for what is right and go against a police officer. Good for the mom for taking a stand and bringing attention to it. Maybe Demeyer will finally get the help he needs.” – Citizen101 from the South Bend Tribune’s Forums

DeMeyer will be replaced by Cpl. Rebecca Childers, a female officer.

Cpl. Rebecca Childers, South Bend — Childers is a member of the St. Joseph County Police Department. She is in charge of the child seat safety program, is a certified child passenger safety technician, and also developed and runs a program to educate teens on the dangers of drunken driving. She also has worked with Drug Abuse Resistance Education to educate students about the effects of drugs and alcohol. She was a former officer at Schmucker Middle School
